...had an idea for a layout where it seemed like such a good idea in your head but didn't quite come off in real life? This is one of those, perhaps it should have been consigned to the scrapheap but I loved the tree so much I couldn't do it!!

I know we are into the New Year now and all you probably want to do is put Christmas behind you and move on, but before you do, I wanted to share my little Christmas projects with you.

The chipboard tree was from a class taught by the hugely talented Cleo Jarvis at a previous Christmas workshop at Exhall.

The advent was originally from tesco (huge thanks to my mate Lesley for this!!) which I decorated with old patterened papers I'd had in for ages.

The idea for the ribbon tree and the card holder were both found on Pinterest ...it's amazing what you can do with some old clothes pegs and a coat hanger!!

well I have had a great month, Nov of course is when the Sarah's Cards retreat is and it was amazing!

As usual the shop was filled to the rafters with lots of exciting new goodies and it would have been rude not to buy some!!;)

the background paper for this latest layout was one I couldn't resist buying, the new My mind's eye Kraft papers are just stunning!

I came home feeling really inspired, so watch this space!!

Can't wait to do it all again in March!!

Granny Wobblys

I thought I had a sweet tooth but Granny Wobblys fudge is a step too far for me, however the rest of our holiday party loved the stuff! So here's my tribute to that wonderful establishment that puts a smile on so many faces!

My own 'fudge' has far fewer calories and won't rot your teeth! It's made out of scraps of felt wrapped in cellophane. I can't comment on the taste though, but I'm willing to bet people wouldn't find it quite as appetising!

Did this one for the weekly challenge on UKS

used some papers I had had in for a long long time but can't for the life of me remember what make they are.

I used glimmer mists for the background and some watercolours to 'shadow' the flower in the paper but it didn't photograph very well

Have tried to get back into journalling again because it's been sadly lacking on a lot of my layouts to date, feel free to pick me up on my lack if you notice me slipping back into bad habits!!

Well I had a fantastic time at The Green Buttons retreat in Birmingham last week and since I've come home I have definitely got the scrapping bug back!

I found this idea for a flower made from a zip on Pinterest and just had to have a go! Loved how easy it was and really pleased with the look - think a trip to my local haberdashery is in order for some more zips!!

Haven't done any scrapping for a while but I wanted to share my latest creation.

A friend of mine has a lovely little necklace with little round 'dogtags' with the initials of her children on it and I thought it was a really sweet idea.

I thought it would be nice to have one with the grandkids initials.

After looking online (and seeing how expensive they were!!!) I thought I'd make my own. I raided my stash and found these little hooked letters but unfortunately I was 3 letters short!

Plan B!!! I found 3 brads, folded down one of the prong things to make a loop and cut the other one off, and hey presto - 3 hanging initias!!

I finished it off with a leather thongy thingy and added a few beads I'd got hybernating in a cupboard!

I think it will be fun when I wear it watching people trying to make out what it says!!

just adding a little detail as requested!

I did the background using glimmer mists and prima masks (awesome thing those masks, so many ways to use them!)

I made the flower by making a circle of card and wrapping lacy ribbon around it, simplest flower I've ever made!

I found some hook and eyes while I was sorting my sewing stuff out and like most scrappers, I can't look at anything nowadays without wondering if they'd fit on a layout!! Quite like how they turned out!

I'd had the rub-ons for ages!! But I loved them and was waiting for the right page and thought this was it!

Not a patterned paper in sight! Still I had been meaning to scrap this photo for a while and I still have mountains of stash to play with so all is not lost!

My darling son won't be best pleased at my posting this one, good job he doesn't check out my blog!!

Congratulations to my son and daughter in law, Danny and Laura!

Bayley-Rae arrived safe and well yesterday, weighing in at 6lb 10oz!

My ninth grandchild - the girls are outnumbering the boys now 5 to 4!!

Think I'd better start saving for Christmas from now!!

can't believe I haven't updated my blog for so long - apologies to anyone who takes the time to drop by - I promise to try harder in the future.

I have just returned from a wonderful weekend at the Sarah's cards retreat and still can't believe how good it was and how lovely everyone was! The effort behind the scenes was phenomenal - so much attention to detail to make sure everyone went home happy! The goody bags we received were jaw-droppingly brilliant and so generous! Sarah and Lianne and the design team really pulled out all the stops - you are all amazing!!

While I'm here I'll leave you with one of my latest layouts - really enjoyed doing this one, hope you like it!

This month we have two gorgeous classes designed by Claire Horsham Bell, this is the first time Claire has designed for us but I'm sure all our lovely ladies will remember the fantastic demonstrations she did for us with the inks and mists! Well it's been a busy few weeks, getting everything ready for the Exhall Summer Workshop, this month we have not one but THREE designers for you!!

Just a quick layout, had to get something on paper - been busy playing with techniques but have actually achieved very little (although my scraproom looks like a tornedo passed through!!) so it was nice to just sit and actually stick something down instead of throwing paint around!! Can't believe how many things have ended up in the bin this last fortnight!!

I can't believe it is nearly time for this month's crop again, the weeks have fair buzzed by.

This month we are so lucky to have the fabulous Suzanne Torr (fruitysuet from UKS) designing for us! and judging by the sneaks she has definitely come up trumps and done two stunning classes for us!

Places are limited and it's filling up fast so if you haven't booked a place and would like to please let me know as soon as possible - and Wednesday is the deadline if you want a kit!!

Sunday's crop was magic! In more ways than one!! As it was Steph's birthday we had to go all out to make it a special day for her and after wracking our brains for ideas we decided to get Doc to work off some of the millions he owes me by doing some magic for the birthday girl!!

He came up trumps (excuse the pun!) with loads of tricks!

Steph made some gorgeous cupcakes and Emma was a total star and made a wonderful curry for everyone - even me (the anti curry brigade!!) had some and thoroughly enjoyed it!! Wish I'd got the recipe off her though (hint hint Ems!!!)

Claire did a make and take for everyone using the fab new silkies range - if you haven't tried them yet then you really must - who'd have thought you could do so much with what looks like a bottle of nail varnish!!!

and last but by no means least we had the fabulous Coventry Ann teaching this months classes - which were absolutely GORGEOUS!!!!!

Home Sweet Home Supplies

Prima animal bash ‘animal babble’ paper (available from Indigo Mill, just click on the link for the papers)
Prima animal bash ‘birdie gossip’ paper
Sassafras Monstrosity ‘framed’ paper
White cardstock
White acrylic paint
Pale blue watercolour pencil
Black marker pen
Lollipop sticks (free with rub-ons , hope you’ve been hoarding them for a rainy day!)
Piece of cardboard roughly 7”x7”
5 small red brads, assorted coloured brads for flower centres

1. Make a fold in the white cardstock 5” from base
2. Cut enough lollipop sticks to 2.5” to make a picket fence (I used 13 but I was using larger than average lollipop sticks)
3. Paint these with watered down acrylic paint, set aside to dry
4. Cut a grass border from the animal babble pp leaving a half inch border, score along border and fold
5. Make the flower border in the same way but making this one taller as this will sit behind the first one
6. Using the black marker go around the edges of both borders
7. For the flower border cut elements from the flowers and attach using 3d foam pads
8. Attach these to the lower edge of your cardstock by gluing the folded edge only (this should sit behind the border not in front)
9. Using the blue watercolour pencil, add shading to the lollipop sticks, then edge with the black marker as before
10. To assemble your picket fence, cut out two strips of cardstock one 1” wide and one half an inch, score and fold the larger of the two strips. Attach each of the sticks to the folded cardstock – the base of the sticks in line with the fold (the cardstock should sit behind the fence) and leave a small gap in between each ‘strut’. I used glue dots to attach but any strong adhesive would work
11. Now attach the 2nd strip just above the first leaving a small gap
12. Attach to LO as before
13. Doodle ‘nails’ with a black pen
14. To make the tree, cut a circle from the remaining animal babble pp using the dotty side as the front of your tree, then from the reverse cut leaf shapes, attach a few red brads to tree for berries and then add your leaves using foam pads
15. Ink a loliipop stick using brown ink, cut off one shaped edge to give yourself a flat edge for the base of tree, then attach the tree foliage to the stick
16. To make the tree stand up use two strips of cardstock the same width as your tree trunk but an inch longer – glue these together leaving the bottom inch open, fold back these two pieces in opposite directions and attach these only to your LO leaving the upright to attach your tree to 17. To make your window frame, cut four squares from the layout on the right hand side (how big will depend on your chosen photo) the actual frame is just cut from plain cardstock and mounted onto lo using foam pads, attach your photo to reverse
18. To make the window box, cut a bush shape from remaining animal bash paper using the green spotty side, add prima flowers using brads, attach to LO as before under the window frame, doodle stems if desired
19. For the sign cut out one of the frames from the monstrosity ‘framed’ pp and remove the centre using a craft knife
20. Attach to white cardstock and write your title here. Add brads and a little string or thread for hanging (a foam pad behind the frame will help to hold it in position)
21. Cut out a bird, ladybird and mouse from the birdie gossip pp and attach bird to sign, mouse to grass border and ladybird to fence using foam pads
22. For the ‘eaves’ cut the fancy edging strip from the ‘framed’ pp leaving an inch border, fold along edge of strip then fold your border in half, attach to reverse of layout so that the fringed part overhangs the lo
23. Finally, to make a stand for your lo cut a triangle from the cardboard, fold one edge in about an inch and attach this to the layout from behind making sure the flat edge runs parallel to the folded part of layout so that when this is folded out the whole thing should stand freely, this should all fold flat enough for you to put into an album should you want to store it. I hope you have as much fun making this layout as I did!

well it's been a while but things have been pretty hectic here with one thing and another!!

Firstly our Christmas workshop went really well - the classes that Cleo Jarvis did for us were amazing - for anyone not familiar with her work you can check her out here it's well worth a visit!!

Only three weeks to Christmas and as usual I have barely scratched the suface of everything I need to do - so hopefully I can get that out of the way in the next week (or two!!)

I just adore these scrummy papers from prima that are in stock now at Indigo Mills

I thought they'd be perfect for this wedding photo of Sian and Paul - although typically Mr Doodle asked me why I'd use a photo of the from behind! Probably only another scrapper would see it as them 'walking away to their future together' and it would probably take a woman to appreciate that it's important to get the details of that stunning dress in from all angles!!

The wedding went without a hitch and I managed to get some photos, despite the windy weather - at least it stayed dry for the happy couple though!!

I had a lovely surprise in the evening when they gave the speeches and called me up to present me with this gorgeous bouquet!!

Here, finally, are the class LOs from Sunday's Exhall crop. There were some gorgeous interpretations of the LOs and everyone seemed to have a good time! I know I did!! It was lovely to catch up with Steph and Nat, as well as welcome some new faces!

Steph brought along her stunning INDIGO MILLS shop to tempt everyone and I have a much lighter purse than I went with - and managed to buy more stash than I could shake a stick at! I have plenty to keep me inspired for a long time!!

Work on the scraproom is coming along nicely so will soon be in a position to post some piccies!

I've had a busy weekend so far, I am totally revamping my scraproom!
On Monday my wonderful son-in-law, Paul, is coming 'round to replaster the walls for me
and then it will be all systems go!
It does mean I will be scrapping on the dining room table for a while though, but, as I have just received this month's wonderful kit for our crop on 23rd, I can't wait to sit and have a play, regardless of where I have to do it!
This afternoon though I am off to the dressmakers with Steph for the final fitting of the wedding dress! I am so excited to see it and of course my camera will be with me, fully charged and raring to go!!

Here are the finished centrepieces for Rob and Steph's wedding,

each one has lights but I only lit up one for the purpose of the photo.

Even though I have enjoyed doing them I must say I was more than happy when I realised I'd finished them all!

I did this Lo for our display board for the Exhall crop -loads of our lovely ladies contributed artwork and it looks great -so a huge 'thank you' to everyone who helped and watch this space - I'll take a photo of the finished board at this month's crop on the 26th!

this is the mess my scrappy space is in at the moment - still busy with wedding stuff - need to get it all finished as soon as possible, so that I can get back to scrapping!

But the good news is.........my camera is fully recovered!!

Been very neglectful of my blog recently - I've been set the task of making 90 wedding favours and 17 floral centrepieces for my step-son and his lovely girlfriend's wedding in August. I've never attempted floral arrangements before so it's been quite a challenge, but one that I am really enjoying (ask me again after a week of cutting and the answer may be different though!)
I've done 7 so far, so only ten to go - but having only managed 25 favour boxes I may be absent for some time!!

well the workshop went better than we could have hoped! Tracie Hudson's classes were awesome as always!
Everyone was really complimentary about the food - which was a relief - me and Claire were like deers in headlights at lunchtime - worried, not only that it would be edible, but that there would be enough - it was a first attempt at mass catering for both of us!
All the ladies who came along to join us were lovely! I hope we'll be meeting up again with them all soon!
Despite the sore feet and aching joints today I would definitely do it all again! Just not until I have recovered though!

Camera is still poorly but has been diagnosed and the prognosis is good - so watch this space!!

well I have layouts finished that I was going to post but my poor baby (aka my camera) is poorly at the moment - hoping it's nothing serious - the last repair cost £80 .......Russ is on the case and has taken it to see the camera doctor today - I'd hate to be without it at the weekend - talking of which, I can't believe that it's nearly here, our first workshop! I'm a bit nervous but really looking forward to it!

I've been playing with some photos - I have way too much time on my hands lol! I do love messing around with images though to see what can be done - sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't (I'll leave it up to you to decide which this is!!)

Been a busy weekend here - so much still to do before the summer workshop, but things are moving along nicely so I haven't reached 'panic mode' yet!

Managed another LO last night, this one is using old K&co embossed papers that I have had in for ages, glad I finally got around to using them and am fairly pleased with this one.

Been playing again today...the photo doesn't show the colours very well though.

Spent a thoroughly enjoyable two hours with 3 of the grandkids tonight - took some cute photos so got some more scrapping planned!

For a long time I have been a great admirer of the work of Carrin Sofies Verden (apologies if I have the name wrong!!) I scraplifted this masking technique from one of her fabulous layouts - I am so in awe of her work and recommend you pay a visit to her blog!! here: http://carrinsofiesverden.blogspot.com/

I don't have glimmer mists so I made my own version of them using pearlex powders, gum arabic and water. I will definitely be playing some more with various masking techniques, it's so much fun!

I'm on a mission! I really must use up some of my old stash - I've decided that even difficult to use papers can work if I use just small parts of them (like this basic grey one-gorgeous paper but as I don't have any surfers to scrap it's sat in my studio unloved and unused until now!) .......don't know how long it will be before I cave in and buy some new stash but until then I shall attack my old stash with gusto!!

Here, especially for my lovely mate Sharon (and anyone else who may be interested) are the instructions for the 'Butter wouldn't melt' LO

supplies:
Crafty Stash May kit
Ribbler or embossing folder
White doodling pen
White acrylic paint
Sandpaper
Craft knife, metal ruler and cutting mat

1. Dry brush white paint around edges of pp (Rebel tracks reverse) set aside
2. Dry brush white acrylic paint to frame, chipboard piece and two of the medium sized stars. Set aside
3. Rip a strip from along the bottom of the rebel grunge pp, distress (I screwed it up and sanded it)
4. Rip strips evenly along top edge, making some longer than others, then roll the strips back
5. Attach strip to LH edge of main paper
6. In bottom RH corner cut a slit just under an inch from the edge 5” horizontally and 5” vertically
7. Distress edges and hold back (attach corner to main page)
8. Cut two corners from remainder of rebel grunge pp, one 5”x5” and one 4.5”x4.5”
9. Distress edges and attach to back of fold (largest first) roll back and attach as before
10. Use remainder of paper to fill in the hole
11. Doodle around the edges
12. When frame is dry run through the ribbler or embossing folder, distress with ink if desired
13. Add screw-top brads to frame and attach photo
14. From the chipboard piece stamp your title, cut into squares and doodle around the edges Attach to LO
15. Use remaining chipboard to make two brackets add brads and attach to LO inside the square
16. Use two star rub-ons on the painted stars and attach below photo using foam pads.

I've finally started to scrap the slides that Hilary converted for me! Loved these new My mind's eye papers and thought they worked really well with the colours in the photo and how perfect are the ticket stubs for the theme?!!

Back to the gym this morning and I am achy and tired - having a break from it is definitely not a good idea! My compensation is to give the darling housework a miss and spend the day scrapping (yes I know that's what I do every day but this time I've got an excuse!!)

these are the classes I did for the Exhall crop yesterday using the May kit from Craftystash, the crop was fab again - wonderful company - it was great to see some new faces aswell as our lovely regulars! Tired and aching today but it was well worth it!!
